Three men have been accused of imprisoning and beating a New Spitalfields Market trader using metal rods and bottles after he fell behind on his payments.

Eylem Alhaslioglu, 40, of Hainault Road, Chigwell, appeared today at Thames Magistrates Court alongside Aras Simsik, 33, of Main Avenue, Enfield, and Hazar Koz, 32, of The Ridgeway, Enfield.

The three face charges of false imprisonment and actual bodily harm (ABH) following the incident at the famous market in Sherrin Road, Leyton, on October 11.

Prosecutor Kate Shilton, said: "Mahmederif Patel was taken to a warehouse and beaten with metal rods and bottles.

"Mr Patel owned a fruit and veg stall and had fallen behind on his payments.

"The inference is the three men had been hired to threaten him and make his pay his debts."

As part of their bail conditions, the men must not contact Mr Patel or enter the London Borough of Newham.

No pleas were entered and the case has been transferred to Snaresbrook Crown Court for a hearing on May 28.
