The organisation managing council properties in Waltham Forest has failed to keep hundreds of repair appointments every month for over a year, new figures suggest.

Ascham Homes has hit the majority of it performance targets so far this year.

But a 98 per cent target for attending repair appointments has consistently been missed.

In August and May last year, only 87 per cent of appointments were fulfilled on time.

Ascham Homes, which manages 12,400 homes, carries out around 30,000 repairs a year, with an average of around 2,500 per month.

The latest data released by the organisation shows 88 per cent of repair appointments were kept in January this year.

It also failed to meet its target for dealing with tenants' complaints.

The remaining six performance targets were met, with 100 per cent of gas safety checks completed on time.

A spokesman for Ascham Homes said it was pleased with the "positive" figures.

“From April 2014 to March 2015 we fell short of the target for appointments made and kept,” he said.

“This performance indicator reflects the number of appointments where the repairs operative attends the appointment in the agreed time period which is a two hour slot for repairs.

“This was identified as an area where Ascham’s contractors were not meeting the required standard and an action plan was agreed between all parties to improve this with 93 per cent of repairs appointments kept in March 2015 compared to 88 per cent in January.”

Ascham Homes said the data did not relate to repairs completed within the required timescale.

“Ascham Homes will work closely with our contractor partners to make further improvements the repairs service and ensure that we continue to focus on keeping to the agreed appointment time with our residents,” the spokesman added.

The council is currently reviewing its relationship with Ascham Homes, with a public consultation ending last month.

The cabinet is due to consider the findings next month.
