The car park at a popular green space has locked over fears travellers could move in.
The site at Gunpowder Park in Sewardstone Road, Waltham Abbey, was secured on Friday following reports that a group of travellers who had set up on the nearby Chepping Hall site, were about to move on.
A park spokeswoman said it is not yet known when the car park will be reopened to the public.
She said: "We were warned that [the travellers] would be moved on at the weekend.
"However they have not moved so the gates have not been unlocked.
"Residents can still use the fields by parking along the front on the main road as long as they don't block the gates.
"There is also room for them to walk into the field without a car.
"The gates will remain locked until the travellers move on."
The travellers were scheduled to be moved on from the site at the weekend.
Gates leading into the car park of the Gunpowder Park have been locked.
