A house in Oakwood Hill, Loughton, was broken into on Friday.
A safe was found discarded in a field minutes after burglars raided a home nearby.
A house in Oakwood Hill in Loughton was broken into around 1.45pm on Friday (May 15).
The thieves stole a large safe containing jewellery and personal documents.
During a walk at 2.50pm on the same day, a Loughton couple found the damaged safe abandoned in a field off Highwood Lane.
The documents and a watch had been left in the safe, but a necklace, bracelet and a second watch had been taken.
Anyone with information about the burglary, or who saw any suspicious activity in Oakwood Hill or Highwood Lane on Friday afternoon, is asked to call PC Rob Guiney at Loughton CID on 101.
