Rebellious traders who have refused to pay a business levy due to the failings of a council-backed business improvement company will state their case in court today.

A total of 41 businesses in Leytonstone decided no to handover the latest annual payment to E11Bid Company, which has been plagued by financial mismanagement over a number of years.

In 2014 it was found to be around £80,000 in debt despite collecting a levy totalling £65,000 a year from 300 businesses since 2008 and receiving public funds from the council.

Evidence also emerged that income tax contributions for E11Bid staff had not been paid.

Waltham Forest council is responsible for collecting the levy and two previous court hearings at Thames Magistrates Court have been adjourned.

Businesses are set to argue the company has not improved the area and they have lost faith in its leadership under director Fawad Sheikh.due to previous failings.

The decision at Waltham Forest Magistrates Court is expected later today.
