Hundreds of primary school children have been given the chance to follow in the footsteps of sporting stars at an Olympic venue.

More than 50 primary schools representing every London borough, as well as Hertfordshire and Essex were invited to try tennis and hockey at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Pupils from Greenleaf Primary School in Walthamstow took part in the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre annual Schools Festival on Tuesday and Wednesday (May 19 and 20).

The event was hosted by Lee Valley Regional Park Authority in partnership with the venue operators Lee Valley Leisure Trust.

Del Goddard, Lee Valley Leisure Trust chairman said: “Hundreds of young people have had the chance to try hockey and tennis for free over the last two days.

“For the majority of them, it will have been the first time that they have played these sports and we hope that they will be inspired by their experience at this fantastic venue.

“There is no better place to enjoy these two sports than Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre which is open to everyone and offers coaching and other activities for all ages and abilities.”
