A young girl has joined a star-studded cast in a theatre production re-make of a classic children's novel.

Hannah Green, 12, from Chingford, will play the role of Ruby alongside comedian and actor Sean Hughes as 'Mr Perks'.

Actress Caroline Harker plays the part of Ruby’s mother in the new production.

The production, based on Edith Nesbit's 1906 book, opened at King's Cross Theatre in January and features a live steam locomotive and vintage carriage, originally built in 1896.

The Roding Valley High School pupil was offered the part after auditioning through her agent - The Academy Performing Arts School.

Hannah is no stranger to stage performances having already appeared at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, Like a Fishbone at The Bush Theatre and various pantomimes at The Kenneth More Theatre in Ilford.

She said: "I am delighted to be a part of this production.

"The set is amazing and so are the cast and everyone is really friendly.

"I enjoy every part of each performance, especially going on the impressive steam train.”

The King’s Cross Theatre production, directed by Damian Cruden and written by Mike Kenny, supports the Railway Children Charity that aims to help homeless and runaway children throughout the world, with £1 per ticket donated to the charity.
