A relative of a young boy who passed away has held a fundraiser to keep his memory alive a decade on.

Shoaib Hussain was born with an enlarged heart in December 2000 and passed away aged four on May 23 2005 at Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone.

He was cared for by nurses at the hospital's Acorn Ward for sick children.

His cousin, 27-year-old Henna Yasir of Tenby Road, Walthamstow, organised a charity event for Acorn Ward on Sunday (May 24) at Rushcroft Secondary School in Rushcroft Road, Chingford.

She said: "He was a special one.

"Shoaib spent a fair amount of time at Whipps Cross and had his fair share of difficulties.

"He was the only child I played with growing up and was the first child I ever picked up.

"He was such an angel and was always happy despite suffering so much.

"I wanted to mark the tenth anniversary by giving something back to Acorn Ward."

In total, Mrs Yasir has raised £1,400 which she hopes will go towards a sensory room on the ward.

She added: "Local people not only donated but motivated me with kind their words and support.

"With the community coming together and donating for such a good cause it has kept my belief alive that there are still lovely people out there that will help selflessly."
