A video has been released by Epping Forest District Council apologising for weeks of problems with waste collections.

Yesterday, councillors called on environment portfolio holder, Cllr Will Breare-Hall, and the leader of the council, Chris Whitbread to take action to deal with the failings.

Soon afterwards, the council uploaded a video to their YouTube page featuring Cllr Breare-Hall, who apologised for the problems.

A question and answer session was recorded and posted online with an apology over the missed collections.

A new four-day schedule was beset with problems as soon as it started on May 12, with the council blaming software problems for missed refuse and recycling collections.

Councillor Will Breare-Hall features in a video on YouTube in which he apologises over rubbish collections

“The majority group need to be taken to account,” said Independent councillor Stephen Murray, who claimed his own road looked like "a rubbish tip” for several days.

Councillor Will Breare-Hall responded in the clip, stating: “I’d simply like to add if I may an apology to those residents who’ve experienced not only a change in the day of their collection but also the week of their black bin collection and their recycling collection.

“I know that some residents have had to wait over three weeks for their collection as a result of this change and that is something we could have, indeed should have, communicated better to them.

He also added: "The good news is that after this short transition period we’re soon going to be back on to the regular fortnightly collection."
