Drama students have won the opportunity to perform at the National Theatre in an 'official seal of approval of their talents', according to their Principal.

Leyton Sixth Form College were up against school and youth theatre companies from all across the UK in the National Theatre Connections challenge held at the Soho Theatre in Central London.

The group performed their version of ‘The Accordion Shop’ by Cush Jumbo to impress the judges and have been selected to repeat the play at the National Theatre Connections Festival on July 6.

Principal Kevin Watson of the college in Essex Road said: “Much of my social life is spent in the theatre of Leyton Sixth Form College where I enjoy attending a wide range of high quality drama, music and dance events.

"I have long known that the talent on display is often little short of tremendous but the winning of this award gives that knowledge an official seal of approval.”

“The National Theatre Connections challenge is probably the best known and most highly regarded of its kind in the country and to see our students’ efforts being recognised so fulsomely is hugely gratifying for all concerned."
