A consultation on the future of the Lee Valley Ice Centre in Leyton has been launched, with the possibility it could be closed and rebuilt at a different location.

Options being considered by the owner Lee Valley Regional Park Authority (LVPRA) include rebuilding the venue on same site or re-locating to one of a number of locations.

The 31-year-old centre requires in Lea Bridge Road requires a variety of improvements, according to LVRPA.

In 2013 it was revealed an alternative site on Leyton Marshes was being considered.

Campaigners expressed deep concern about the proposal to build on land which was controversially dug up to create a temporary basketball training facility for the 2012 Olympics.

The consultation is in its early stages and Walthamstow MP Stella Creasy has alerted residents to the process.

The Guardian is awaiting details of other sites being considered.
