Two "criminal" brothers have been banned from entering the E4 postcode under the terms of an injunction which is the first of its kind in Waltham Forest.

Ascham Homes, the council's housing manager, took action against the pair, who were said to have made the lives of people living on the Aldriche Way estate in Highams Park "a misery".

The interim injunction bans the brothers, who have not been named for legal reasons, from entering Highams Park and Chingford  for 12 months.

In a statement, Ascham Homes said: "Two brothers made the lives of local residents a misery with relentless anti-social behaviour and criminal activity including causing nuisance, threatening and intimidating behaviour as well as criminal activity such as drug offences and carrying weapons."

The injunction was backed by a supporting statement from Waltham Forest Police's gangs unit.

Raja Khan, neighbourhood manager at Ascham Homes, said: "We’re pleased to be leading the way in tackling ASB by being the first housing body to introduce this type of injunction by working closely with our partners in the police.

"These individuals have made their neighbours lives a misery so this injunction should allow their lives to get back to normal.

"No-one should feel threatened and unsafe on our estates and we will take appropriate action against those causing disorder and nuisance."

Conservative Cllr for Hale and Highams Park, Sheree Rackham, added: "It is good the council have taken action.

"This will send out the right kind of message that, as a local authority, we are not going to put up with this type of behaviour.

"People deserve the right to live harmoniously and it is very sad that one or two people can bring down an area."
