Stella Creasy has won enough nominations to secure a place on the ballot paper for Labour's next deputy leader just ten minutes before the deadline.

The Walthamstow MP achieved the support of the 35 MPs required as supporters joined a last minute push to get her to the next stage before the noon deadline.

Tweeting her success she immediatly urged colleagues to place their vote for other candidates before the deadline.

Rushanara Ali (Bethnal Green and Bow) pulled out of the contest to allow others to vote for the other candidates.

Chuka Ummuna who withdrew from the leadership contest last month voted for Ms Creasy.

Former ministers Caroline Flint and Tom Watson have already secured enough support, with 41 and 59 nominations respectively.

The results of the Labour party leader and deputy leader ballot will be announced at a conference on September 12 after a vote from Labour party members.

More than 100 Labour councillors endorsed Stella Creasy as deputy leader in an open letter earlier this week.

The letter, which includes signatures from 14 Waltham Forest councillors, read: “Too many people now see politics as a closed shop, for the few not the many.

“That means we miss out on their ideas and actions as they get put off taking part. Stella wants to want to change that.

“She represents the future of our party, and a new approach to politics which we so badly need if we are to win again.”

high-profile supporters have taken to Twitter to boost any last minute chances of Stella'a nomination.

Author Caitlin Moran threw her support behind Stella because of her can-do attitude, love of snacks and 1980s band The Wedding Present.

Dan Jarvis MP urged others to think of the Labour membership anger if Stella was not nominated.

Political commentator Owen Jones thinks Stella’s nomination will widen the debate for Labour supporters.

Diana Abbot MP for Hackney posted her vote for Ms Creasy on Twitter.
