A mother is calling for help to find her biological father after her daughter was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.

Beth Johnson, 60, is desperately trying to contact a man from Walthamstow who may be able to give doctors a detailed family medical history as they work to help treat her daughter.

Beth was adopted in Romford in 1954 but she managed to track her father, Alfred Campbell, down when she was in her twenties.

Mr Campbell was working as a lighterman who operated barges when she was born.

Beth found him through The Company of Watermen and Lightermen and managed to meet with him after she was given his mother’s phone number.

However, Beth and Alfred have since lost contact after meeting only three times.

Beth is now desperate to find either her father, who would now be in his early 80s, or any of his other children.

Alfred Campbell had a greengrocery business and later worked as a maintenance man for Marks and Spencer’s.

Beth, who lives in Lincoln, needs the information for her 33-year-old daughter who was diagnosed with endometrial cancer six-months-ago.

“My daughter has been referred to the genetics department at the hospital but when she went for the appointment they said they need more family medical information, which is a huge reason why I would love to find him or his family,” she said.

“The hospital said that this type of cancer in someone so young is usually a secondary cancer and they want to find out if there is any other people in the family that have had cancer.”
