A man who stabbed a supermarket employee in the back as he walked home from work has been sentenced.
Mohiraj Sanghia, of Banbury Road, Walthamstow, was given an indefinite hospital order at Snaresbrook Crown Court yesterday after he pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm (GBH) on May 26.
The 43-year-old was arrested after he stabbed a 20-year-old Co-op worker in his lower back as he made his way home from work in Higham Hill Road, Walthamstow, on July 24.
Emergency services, including London's Air Ambulance (LAA) arrived at the scene at around 11pm and the man was taken to an east London hospital as a priority, with a doctor on board from the LAA.
He was discharged from hospital a few days later.
An employee at the Co-op told the Guardian it was not the first time Sanghia had targeted and followed employees at the store.
Following the attack, business owners, councillors and local residents called on police to have a permanent presence in the ward to deter further crime.
