A landmark snooker hall could be demolished to make way for a block of flats under new plans.

A planning application has been submitted to replace the building, on the junction of Forest Road and Hoe Street in Walthamstow, with a six-storey development including 22 flats and a retail space.

The large hall at the busy junction was formerly known as the Hurricane Room and owned by company Rileys.

The proposed development includes ten one-bedroom flats, nine two-bedroom properties and three three- bedroom flats.

A total of 30 Rileys clubs were closed when the company went into administration.

The firm's assets were sold to Valiant Sports, which retained 1,200 of 1,400 staff operating other clubs under the Rileys name.

The agent for the applicant is listed as Peter Smith of Fanshaw Street in London.

Recently, two large murals were painted on the side of the building at 1 Hoe Street as part of the Wood Street Walls project.

The application has been referred to the council's planning committee.
