A decision date has been set for a Chingford bar which wants to stay open until 5am at weekends.

The owner of soul music-themed venue Bojangles in Old Church Road has applied to Waltham Forest council to extended its opening and licensable hours.

Previously known as the Bird Cage and then Chanz, the venue has had a troubled history.

In January 2012, Chanz was ordered to close for a month by Waltham Forest council's licensing committee.

They held a licensing review in response to eight serious incidents since including bottle attacks, brawls and allegations that bouncers beat customers with batons on two occasions.

New owner Byron Senior spent over six months renovating the former pub with VIP booths and crystal-studded walls.

Currently, the venue has a 2am licence to sell alcohol and play live music at weekends but Mr Senior has applied to extend the sale of alcohol until 4am on Friday and Saturday and close at 5am.

Mr Senior also wants to open until 3am during the week.

He also wants to allow people to enter after 1am.

A number of objections to the application have been handed to the council, including one from the police who say the extended hours would have a ‘negative’ impact on the area.

A decision will be made by the council’s licensing committee at Walthamstow Town Hall on June 30.
