A police officer has been suspended after being charged with illeaglly possessing a firearm and ammunition.
Essex Police firearms enquiry officer, David Sims, 69, is set to appear in court next month to face three counts of possessing a prohibited firearm and ammunition without a certificate.
Sims was investigated following an internal audit of incidents named Operation Wishbone, which prompted checks of his firearms and shotgun certificates.
An internal police disciplinary investigation was launched today.
Sims will appear at Colchester Magistrates' Court on July 21.
