A former karate champion, who stood as a Conservative candidate in Walthamstow at the last election, visited Buckingham Palace to collect her MBE this weekend.
Molly Samuel Leport, a seven-time winner of the world title and mother of two, was honoured for services to her sport.
Mrs Samuel-Leport thanked her fellow sportsmen and women, and her family, for their support.
A Cancer Research employee from Walthamstow was also made an MBE.
Maureen Kathleen Collins, from Leytonstone, the manager of New Park Day Centre in Islington, was honoured for services to the care of older people.
