A traditional pub has beaten hundreds of competitors across the capital to a prestigious award.
Nightingale Pub in Wanstead beat around 750 other pubs to the Enterprise Inns Cellar Keeper of the Year award in Greater London.
The largest pub company in the country inspected all the public houses it owns in the capital, looking at hygiene, how well the cellar is kept and the quality control of beers.
Noel McMahon, who has owned the pub for 28 years, said he was “honoured” with the award.
He has run pubs across Forest Gate, Manor Park and even the British Queen in New Wanstead for ten years before taking over the Nightingale Lane pub in 1987.
The 72-year-old said: “It is fantastic and a rare honour to be recognised.
“We are just a little backstreet pub in east London and I must thank my cellarman Jules for all the work he has put into the pub.
“There is a lot of importance in this and will hopefully result in a lot more people using the pub.”
