Residents' who say they are "dead against" a venue extending its opening hours will find out today if it is to be granted a 4am licence.

Byron Senior, owner of soul-inspired brasserie, Bojangles, in Old Church Road, Chingford, applied to extend its licence in April, which would see the venue stay open later than any other bar in Waltham Forest.

The venue, known to many as the former Prince Albert Pub, has had a reputation for violence and under-age drinking under various owners.

Its licence was suspended in 2012 when it was known as Chanz.

It then re-opened as the Birdcage, but struggled to shrug off its reputation, and problems with crime and disorder continued until it closed in 2013.

Currently Bojangles has a 2am licence to sell alcohol and play live music at weekends, but Mr Senior applied to extend the sale of alcohol until 3am during the week and on Sundays, and 4am on Friday and Saturday, with a closing time of 5am.

After meeting with PC Donna Wilcox and PC Matt Brown of Waltham Forest police's Licensing Team, Mr Senior agreed to amend the opening times to 1am on Monday to Thursday, 2am on Sunday and 4am on Friday and Saturday.

Residents remain opposed the revised times and the council has received 23 objections from neighbours.

Police have also registered their opposition to the plan, arguing the late licence will have a "negative impact on the local residents' quality of life".

A council environment health officer and the authority's licensing officer, Marc Witham, have also objected to the application over fears of public nuisance.

Many residents living close to the bar in Brook Crescent and New Road say visitors often park in their roads, with many kept awake at night due to drunken anti-social behaviour.

In a letter to the police, Mr Byron said he has secured permission for 30 car parking spaces above Iceland which he hopes will "lessen" the impact on parking issues and late-night public disorder.

He has snubbed the police’s request to operate Clubscan as he claims his older clientele would find it "obtrusive" and it would have a "detrimental effect" on his business.

The licensing meeting will take place today at the Town Hall in Forest Road, Walthamstow at 2pm.
