The next phase of a £20million plan to turn the area around Walthamstow Central station into a modern retail, travel and housing complex could be given the go-ahead next week.

A proposal to develop part of Hoe Street and Selborne Road into a "gateway" to Walthamstow will be considered by the council’s planning committee on Tuesday.

The first phase of the project by Solum Regeneration involved the building of a hotel, flats and shop units in the station's former car park.

Phase two include a three-shop retail unit and a block of flats including 79 homes.

Three shops on land owned by Network Rail adjacent to the station at the junction of Hoe Street were served eviction notices last year to make way for the scheme.

Plans submitted by applicant Nick Clarke would see them demolished and a unit built, which could be a mixture of shops, restaurants or bars.

The second part of the plans involve erecting a raised building above the existing 230-space station car park.

The council’s local plan aims to build 2,000 new homes in the town centre.

Solum Regeneration is a partnership between Network Rail and Kier Property.
