Bright primary school pupils got their grey matter working at a maths competition, last week.

Students from George Mitchell, St Joseph's, Willowbrook, Riverely and Noor-ul-Islam all entered teams at the More Able Maths Challenge on Thursday (June 25). 

The teams answered questions in three categories of code breaking, riddles and a game show style quiz.  

Prizes of book tokens were handed out to all pupils who took part. 

George Mitchell pupil Liza Akran, 10, Leyton, said: "We get to learn different techniques at maths, we got to compete with different pupil and make friends."

Riverely pupil Mariam Ramjan, 10, Leyton, said: "We got to meet pupils from new schools and test maths skills.  

Willowbrook pupil Suha Khan, 10, Leyton, said: "This Is the first maths challenge I have taken part in and I really enjoyed. Maths 

St Joseph's pupil Leonardo Pazzelli, 10, Leyton, said: "The most fun about the challenge was doing the riddles, I really enjoyed that."

Noor-ul-Islam pupil Rayan Qasin, 10, Walthamstow, said: "The most fun part was when the students said the number and the teacher had to guess. 

The challenge, specifically for high achieving pupils was held at George Mitchell School, which is in the top one percent in the country for pupil improvement in maths.
