A borough commander is inviting residents to make the most of an opportunity to explore the work of Redbridge Police by hosting an open day.

The event at Ilford police station on July 25 will provide visitors with a behind-the-scenes tour of the station, including its custody suite, and the opportunity to engage with some of the Metropolitan Police's specialist units.

Visitors will be greeted by officers, special constables and volunteers from across the borough and will be able to watch displays from the Met's Dogs Unit and horses from the Mounted Branch.

Vintage police cars will be on display and visitors can pick up free crime prevention advice and equipment on the day.

There will be opportunities for people to try out special protection clothing, have their finger prints taken and their faces painted.

Police in Redbridge are to hold an open day at Ilford Police Station on Saturday, 25 July between 10:00hrs and 15:00hrs.

Borough Commander Sue Williams, said: "I hope the borough's residents will come along and have an enjoyable day with my officers and volunteers.

"An open day doesn't happen very often, but it is the perfect opportunity to see what goes on behind the scenes.

"Our young visitors will have lots of fun things to do while parents get the chance to find out how the borough is policed and tell us about any concerns they may have."

The open day is from 10am to 3pm.
