Former TV star Michael Barrymore is suing Essex Police for damages to his career eight years after his arrest when a man was found dead floating in his swimming pool.
Stuart Lubbock, 31, was found dead at Mr Barrymore's house in Roydon, Essex, in March 2001.
Post-mortem tests found Mr Lubbock had suffered severe internal injuries indicating sexual assault and his bloodstream contained ecstasy, cocaine and alcohol.
No-one has been charged over his death.
The Strike It Lucky star is seeking damages for harm to his reputation and his career in relation to his arrest on suspicion of murder and sexual assault in June 2007.
In September 2007 the Crown Prosecution Service announced that Mr Barrymore would not face charges over the death of Mr Lubbock.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: "As the civil proceedings are still ongoing it would be inappropriate for Essex Police to comment."
