Two car parks have been officially branded as safe from criminal activity as part of a new police scheme.

Located in Grove Park, Wanstead, and in Charteris Road, Woodford Green, they were both awarded an accreditation as part of the Park Mark Safer Parking Scheme.

Awarded by the Association of Police Officers, the scheme is dedicated to providing safer surroundings for the public.

It is aimed at reducing both crime and the fear of crime in parking facilities.

The safer parking status is awarded to parking facilities that have met the requirements of a risk assessment conducted by the police.

It means the car park has been vetted by police to ensure it is fully secured, and measures have been taken to deter anti-social behaviour and criminal activity.

Cllr Jas Athwal, leader of the Redbridge council, said: “I am very pleased that a number of our car parks have reached Park Mark status.

“Reaching the standards of the Safer Parking Scheme, which is designed to reduce crime and fear, shows how serious we are about the safety and security of anyone who leaves their vehicles in our borough car parks.

“The Park Mark accreditation helps drivers find car parks where they can confidently leave their vehicle knowing the environment is safer for them, their passengers and their vehicle.”
