Four homeless people have been evicted from a block of garages owned by Waltham Forest council.

Police and Ascham Homes staff carried out an operation in St Stephen’s Close in Walthamstow earlier this week, after an increase in reports of anti-social behaviour.

Neighbours had contacted the authorities after a rise in noise and crime in the area

It has now been revealed that while on site officers discovered that rough sleepers had set up home in two of the empty garages.

They were provided with housing advice and removed from the property.

Raja Khan, Ascham Homes Neighbourhood Manager, said: “We discovered four homeless people living in one of the garages so we gave them advice on where to find support for their homeless situation.

“The men were removed and advised to clear their belongings."

The garages have been re-secured and sealed off.

Notices have been placed on the garages to let people know they are out of bounds.
