John Cryer MP has moved out of his constituency home to another part of London, The Guardian can reveal.

The Member of Parliament for Leyton and Wanstead is now living with his wife and newborn child in Lewisham, 40 minutes away from Waltham Forest by public transport.

Mr Cryer said his decision would not affect his work in the constituency, but was vital for his family.

He said: “After our baby was born in January we both found it very difficult without any family nearby.

“We did not want to move and wanted to stay in Leyton but decided to move to Lewisham to be near my wife’s family so we have that support nearby.

“This does not mean I will be spending any less time in Leyton and Wanstead. I continue to do normal office-based surgeries, street surgeries, coffee mornings, meetings with community organisations and religious groups, etc.

“In fact, if anything those activities have increased in the past few weeks. I am always committed to my constituents and the quality of service they get from me and my team is high and will continue to be so.”

Mr Cryer reportedly left his home in Lawton Road in Leyton after the general election which he won in May.

The Labour politician was re-elected as the Member of Parliament for Leyton and Wanstead, taking a massive 58.6 per cent of the vote.

The MP, who has held the seat since 2010, won 23,858 votes at the count on May 8.

This was up on his 2010 score of 17,511 votes and he was way ahead of his nearest rival, Conservative Matthew Scott, who got 8,939 votes.
