Herts County Council has dropped the ban on the showing of ‘X’ fims on Sunday. One of the reasons given is that the restrictions, limiting films shown to ‘A’ or ‘U’, have caused “particular difficulties for those cinemas which specialise in Continental films, many of which bear an ‘X’ certificate.”
It added: “In view of the recent drop in cinema takings, many cinemas have ceased to show a separate programme on Sundays, and find it more economical to show films for seven days; this applies particularly to the smaller cinemas which are also the cinemas which often specialise in showing Continental films.”
