The funeral of a Google executive killed in a road accident last month was held yesterday.

Described by his parents as a “beloved son”, James Howard was struck by a taxi on June 21 after the first day of the week-long Cannes Lions event in France.

The 29-year-old lived in Woodford Green and graduated from Warwick University before working in marketing with Google, heading a team based at its Victoria office.

A service was hosted by Our Lady of Lourdes church in Wanstead yesterday (July 13) before close friends and families attended the City of London Cemetery in Aldersbrook.

At the time of his death he was representing Google at the annual global advertising and marketing industry awards.

His parents Margaret and John Howard said in a statement after his death: "We lost our beloved son James in a tragic accident in Cannes.

“We ask that the media respect the privacy of our family, his partner Eleanor and James's friends at this very difficult time."

Mr Howard joined Google in 2012 and worked on projects including Inside Abbey Road, an interactive tour of the famous studio.

Also Explore Loch Ness uses street view cameras to film the Scottish lake, giving users the chance to look for the mythical beast.

He moved to the company after working for MySpace, where he was responsible for a 2011 redesign which led to double the amount of users on the site.

Google said in a statement: “We lost a loved and respected member of our team.

“We are deeply saddened and our thoughts are with his family and friends.”
