A house has been boarded up and squatters evicted following joint action by police and Ascham Homes.
The property in Queens Grove Road, Chingford, was boarded up on Wednesday (July 15) after officers from Chingford Green Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) visited the previous day and found people living there illegally.
Police took action after receiving reports of anti-social behaviour, and drugs and alcohol use at the home.
According to police, the tenant is currently away for an "indefinite length of time" and as a result of her absence, the squatters, who used to visit the house previously with the tenant's permission, occupied the house illegally.
PC Darren Brand of Chingford Green SNT said Ascham Homes are now reviewing the tenancy.
He said: "Anti-social behaviour which effects other residents and reduces the quality of life for others will not be tolerated.
"Chingford Green is a very desirable place to live, work and visit and the safer neighbourhood team will continue to work closely with partner agencies such as Ascham Homes to target such activity and deal with offenders appropriately. "
Jo Murphy, deputy chief executive at Ascham Homes, said: "We successfully removed some squatters from this property who were causing a nuisance to their neighbours and had no right to be living there.
"As the absent tenant is likely to be away from the property for a length of time, we will be reviewing their tenancy and we have made sure the flat is thoroughly secured in the meantime to prevent any squatters from returning."
"We are working closely with the police in order crack down on any nuisance behaviour and prevent illegal occupation in the properties we manage."
It might not be the prettiest house in the street but at least there'll be no more trouble there! #police #eviction pic.twitter.com/nXuWY5uKmr
