An author has described visiting a special needs school as one of "most inspiring moments" of her literary career.

Virginia Macgregor, author of 'What Milo Saw' travelled to Joseph Clarke School in Vincent Road, Highams Park on Thursday (July 16).

The novel 'What Milo Saw' is about a nine-year-old boy, who suffers from a rare eye condition called retinitis pigmentosa which means his life is seen through a pin-hole and one day he will go blind.

It is the first novel to be published by the English teacher with her second adult novel expected to hit the shelves in 2016.

During her visit, Ms Macgregor read from her book and held a writing workshop with a group of pupils and signed large printed copies of her book.

She said: "Visiting Joseph Clarke School was one of the most inspiring moments of my writing career.

"The children were so positive, energetic and creative.

"I'll never forget how one of the 11-year-old boys said, 'I'm a possible, not an impossible.'

"Speaking to them about What Milo Saw and helping them with their own stories was a joy."

Joseph Clarke teacher Cheryl Aubury, said pupils were "enthralled listening to Virginia and many of the pupils could identify with Milo."

The school is recognised as the centre of excellence for the visually impaired in the south east of England.
