Rickmansworth’s new railway station, with space for 18 cars, was officially opened on Monday.
Only two cars took advantage of the facilities, although it had been claimed the car park would be much too small.
As usual the public car park, on the bypass near the station, was full of commuters’ cars before 9am, and there were also cars on the roadway outside the new car park.
The reason? The railway charges one shilling a day; the public car park is free.
