A drama centre has made an outstanding appearance on the world stage at an international festival in Belgium.

Redbridge Drama Centre in Churchfields, South Woodford, was chosen to represent the UK at the World Festival of International Amateur Theatre in Westouter and Ypres.

Funded by PTA group, the Friends of Redbridge Drama Centre, a team of young actors were given a standing ovation for their three performances of 'Journeys'.

The performance had almost no spoken language. It is a comic tale, which tells the story of four characters who end up on a train, and lived up to the festival's 'people on the move' theme.

Since returning, the 45-year-old drama centre has received invitations to perform at festivals in Florida, Moscow, Malta, Stuttgart, and Berlin.

The head of the centre, Keith Homer , has also received an invitation to talk about the centre's rich history and to help set up a drama teacher training course at the University of Vilnius in Lithuania.

Councillor Dev Sharma, responsible for civic pride, said: "I’m very proud that our drama centre continues to enjoy an international reputation for its excellent performances and I would congratulate all those involved.

"I hope that we can continue spreading the name of the drama centre across the globe."
