Scores of aspiring young footballers took part in the annual Eid Cup, this weekend.

Freestyle footballer Colin Nell kicked off the event with a skills display, getting the teams fired up for action at Leyton Jubilee Park.

Around 350 youths and their families took part in the renamed Nugent Richard Eid Cup 2015 run by Leyton charity Salaam Peace.

Founder Sab Bham set up the internationally acclaimed initiative after the London 7/7 bombings.

Police officers, councillors and community figures attended the event in Leyton on Saturday.

Acting Met Sergeant Luke Halls said it was a ‘great day’ which gave officers the chance to get to know young people from the community.

Sponsors for the event included Tayyab Food Stores, Lammas School, Your Move and London Youth.

Steve Davies from Arsenal in the community also gave out tickets to watch Arsenal’s first team in training, as well as offering the youth group the chance to train at the club’s new ‘hub’.

Cllr Ahsan Khan, cabinet member for health and well being and Mayor Saima Mahmud attended.
