A care home for children with learning disabilities in Waltham Forest has improved according to a new Ofsted inspection.

Leyton Green Road was judged to have "improved effectiveness" in a report published by inspectors this month building on the 'good' rating given to the care home last year and an 'inadequate' rating in 2013.

An inspection was carried out in March at the respite home that supports children with learning disabilities and physical, health and behavioural needs.

The Ofsted report said: "Children state that they 'like staying at Leyton Green'. Staff describe their work as 'great' and they operate 'like a family'. Parents express their satisfaction, commenting that the communication is 'excellent'.

"Children describe staff as being ‘kind and polite’, ‘happy’, ‘fun’, ‘very good’ and ‘helpful’ and there is a greater recognition of staff member’s strengths contributing to increased morale and motivation."

Cllr Mark Rusling, responsible for children, said the home should be proud of the improved Ofsted rating.

He said: "This is a fantastic report and credit should go to staff for their hard work and dedication, as well as to the young residents themselves for taking a degree of ownership over the care they receive at Leyton Green Road.

"Their combined achievements are all the more remarkable given that Ofsted judged the home to be 'inadequate' in 2013.

"Since then it has gone from strength to strength and, while there's still room to make it even better, this latest report will give families that rely on this support service extra reassurance their children are receiving the high level of care they deserve."
