A rugby club has announced that it raised over £8,000 in a 120-mile cycle ride in a bid to upgrade facilities.
On May 21 and 22, over 30 members travelled from Eton Manor Rugby Club, in Nutter Lane, Wanstead, to its founding school of Eton College near Windsor.
The club, whose senior team this year got promoted to the National League 3 South, grew out of social club Eton Manor Boys' Club (EMBC), founded in the early 20th century, moving to Wanstead in 1996.
Eton Manor Chairman Gary Wood said the final total has been put towards a new tractor, repairing floodlights, weeding all the pitches and revamping the drainage.
He said: “We are absolutely delighted to have raised so much money for various infrastructure projects at the club which is a focal point for the local community.
“I am very proud and grateful to all the club members and friends who took the time to raise money for such a worthy cause.”
