Plans to build 10 houses on a site currently occupied by three properties has been branded an ‘overdevelopment’ by a council committee.

Members of Loughton Town Council's planning committee spoke out against plans to demolish the three dwellings and erect a further 10 with a new access road, parking and landscaping at Trevelyan House in Arewater Green, Loughton, yesterday (July 28).

The planning committee recommended refusal of the plans which they branded an overdevelopment of the site, which would be visible to the neighbouring heritage area owned by the City of London and the almshouses bordering the plot.

Concerns regarding highway safety were also raised when councillors were made aware that neighbour road, Monkchester Close, residents already had difficulty exiting onto “the busy and steep Goldings Hill”.

The road was highlighted as “a gateway road into Loughton and congested on a daily basis during peak travel hours.”

The committee finished by claiming that the application was unsustainable it lacked adequate parking provision and turning space for ten houses and the proposed access road was also considered too narrow for refuse and emergency vehicles.

Their recommendations to refuse the application will be considered by Epping Forest District Council at the next development stage.
