A Mayor of London candidate will visit Waltham Forest this week to tell residents how he plans to better the borough if he is elected.

David Lammy, MP for Tottenham, who hopes to take the post from Boris Johnson is inviting residents to put questions to him in Walthamstow, on Friday.

Cycling safety and housing will be some of the issues addressed by Mr Lammy who wants to make night buses free for workers and ban HGVs from driving in rush hour in the capital.

“Whether they’re nurses coming off shift and travelling home to Blackhorse Road, essential cleaning staff making their way from Leyton to the City for their late night shift, or midnight revellers out to enjoy their Friday night, Londoners need a safe and reliable way to travel at all hours of the day,” he said.

He added: “It’s important for me to know the issues affecting local people and the best way to do that is to meet them face to face.”

Mr Lammy is joined on the ballot paper by Diane Abbott, Dame Tessa Jowell, Sadiq Khan, Gareth Thomas and Christian Wolmar.

The event will take place near Walthamstow Central bus station between 1pm and 2pm.
