A “significantly damaged” road is creating a risk of serious accidents and disturbing residents, it has been claimed.

A petition to Essex County Council has been started by James Bloom of Valley Hill in Loughton to have the road, which is unmarked in places and broken by potholes, to be resurfaced.

Almost 50 people have signed the online petition in just over a week, with the two months to go before it closes.

An online statement by Mr Bloom claims the section of the road between Roding Road in Loughton and Loughton Way in Buckhurst Hill carries “a significant level of traffic”, causing noise, safety issues and disturbance.

He said: “The poor road surface quality is causing strong vibrations to come off the road and into the residential houses, particularly generated by buses (route 167) and HGV traffic.

“The poor condition of the road is also a safety issue, as cars and bikes swerve to avoid pot holes.

“The road is not currently maintained to a level that can cope with the type, volume, and speed of the traffic using the road, and this must be addressed by the council.”

He added: “I would urge all resident to sign, to ensure the quality of Valley Hill is restored to an acceptable level.”
