Artists with smash-hit singles during the height of the 80s and 90s dance era are to headline a free two-day music festival next month.

Returning for a second year, Gwen Dickey from Rose Royce will take to the Chingford Big Weekender stage on August 15 alongside internationally renowned groups ABC and Boney M.

Music lovers who embraced the 1990s rave scene will enjoy performances of the number 1 hit single 'Let me be your fantasy' by Baby D and N Trance's 'Set you free'.

There will also be a line-up of performances from Waltham Forest-based artist's Camara Fearon, Mikki Jay and the ever popular Tina T.

Day one of the festival at Ridgeway Park in Old Church Road, Chingford, will start at 1pm and finish at 8pm.

The second day of the festival is family-orientated and will feature a funfair, pedal carts, climbing walls, and other children's activities from 1pm to 6pm.

Visitors are advised to arrive early to avoid disappointment after hundreds of people were turned away last year when the park reached its capacity shortly after opening.

Waltham Forest council were criticised back in May after it was revealed they spent £18,000 on last year's headliner Sister Sledge.

Council leader Chris Robbins defended the decision saying free festivals and fireworks is what makes the borough "so special".
