Crowds came out in force for a bumper Toot Hill Show this weekend, with the biggest turnout for at least five years.

Crime-busting dogs, racing ferrets and birds of prey all entertained crowds at the annual event in Stanford Rivers, which also saw more than 50 classic car owners put their prized vehicles on display.

Vegetable growing competitions and a craft tent made their return, and a raffle was run by the Ongar W.I. at the show, which had a number of stalls from local charities and organisations.

Organiser Maurice Harvey said: “We had a good weather forecast for the whole of the week and we knew it would be nice, so everybody got in their cars and came down.

“We had a good turnout, certainly the biggest in the last five years so we were very pleased with that.

“Generally it went very well, we had some great feedback from people on the field saying it was a very friendly show.”

He added: “I would like to give my personal thanks to friends, family and locals who helped on the day.”
