A six figure sum to improve the economy in Redbridge has been secured by the council.

Cash from the Mayor’s London Enterprise Panel has been won to improve business prospects for the area.

The £1.2m funding will be spent on the delivery of five projects to support 500 people back into work and help over 400 existing businesses.

With the funds, over 100 new apprenticeships will be created and a business hub will open in Redbridge Central Library in October.

From 2016, affordable workspace and possible retail units will be developed for craft businesses in Hainault Forest Country Park.

LED street lights will also be brought to the area.

Councillor Helen Coomb, cabinet member for economy, regeneration and planning, said: “Unlocking the economic potential of our Borough is a key priority for us and we’re very pleased to receive this funding from the London Enterprise Panel for regeneration projects in Redbridge.

“These projects will help residents to secure jobs and apprenticeships. They will also help to make our town centres more sustainable and will provide vital support to new and existing businesses in the Borough.

“The funding will help us to continue our drive to unleash business opportunities and boost the local economy.”
