Plans to demolish a traditional village pub and replace it with “bespoke” flats have been resubmitted.

In December last year, district councillors refused developers permission to knock down the Sixteen String Jack pub in Coppice Row, Theydon Bois, and build a new 13-apartment block in its place.

Constable Homes Ltd have now made a new application to Epping Forest District Council, asking for permission to build a “substantially similar” block of 11 flats.

Councillors refused the previous application for several reasons, including the possible visual impact on nearby properties, strain on available parking spaces and the distance to the nearest secondary school.

A council statement also said it would be “completely out of character with the nature of the surrounding residential area and the street scene, which is characterised by detached properties in large garden plots.”

Planners had previously recommended permission to be given to developers.
