Overground stations in Waltham Forest could face closure because of high user numbers during tomorrow’s Tube strike, campaigners have warned.

Barking Gospel Oak Railway User Group (BGORUG) is calling on commuters to avoided TfL's already stretched Barking to Gospel Oak Line as they believe it will not offer a quicker alternative.

Group secretary Glenn Wallis, said: "The line's tiny two carriage diesel trains are packed to the gunnels at the best of times and during the Tube strike passengers will probably have to queue for at least half an hour before getting near a train."

"LUL managed to keep the station open during the last strike, but if they cannot find the legal minimum of staff required they will have to close the station and London Overground trains will not be able to call there.

“Any passenger intending to alight at Blackhorse Road should check that the station is open before starting their journey."

BGORUG has been calling for trains with more carriages for many months due to what they label the 'rush hour crush' on the line.
