A stabbing victim has set out to raise £1000 in memory of a teenager who was killed after crashing his moped while being chased by two unmarked police cars.

Shane Yerrell, 31, of Cullings Court in Waltham Abbey, set himself the bungee jumping fundraising challenge after meeting the family of 18-year-old Henry Hicks earlier this year.

Henry was killed after colliding with a car in Islington near his home just a few days before Christmas last year.

Four Scotland Yard officers were served with gross misconduct notices as part of the ongoing Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) investigation into police actions leading up to the tragedy.

A ‘justice for Henry’ petition set up online by sister, Claudia Hicks, has more than 25,650 signatures of support.

Mr Yerrell said: “As soon as I met the family I knew I had to do something.

“They’re all so lovely and it is absolutely shocking what happened.

“I am really nervous about the bungee jump because the thought of falling from a height scares me.

“I just keep telling myself it is only two minutes and then it is over.”

Mr Yerrell is set to jump 200ft in front of crowds at the Green Dragon Pub in Market Square, Waltham Abbey, on August 22.

The 31-year-old, who has been victim to two knife attacks and has previously raised money for teenager Liam Bradshaw, who was left with brain damage following a crash which killed three of his friends, is also organising an evening event on the same date.

Residents are set to be entertained with live performances from artists including Lydia Lucy and Jade Ellis from ITV’s X-Factor as well as fire breathers, a DJ and a raffle from 7pm at The Sun Inn in Sun Street, Waltham Abbey.

Mr Yerrell added: “I am hoping to raise at least £1,000 for the Henry Hicks Foundation.

“After the evening event I think we will let off lanterns or something in memory of Henry.

“Passing away at such a young age meant he wasn't able to experience many of life's opportunities.

“Money raised by the foundation means that wonderful, positive things can be achieved in his name and honour.”
