Transport for London (TfL) has been slammed after it misspelt a new sign for Walthamstow Central.

The signpost celebrating the recent Overground takeover at the station incorrectly reads ‘Waltamstow Central’ on both sides at the prominent location on Selborne Road.

After tube strikes, the three-week part-closure of the Victoria line and a tumultuous takeover from Greater Anglia to the Overground, commuters have allowed themselves the chance to poke fun at TfL after the sign was put up last night.

James Clark, 64, of Greenacre Gardens, Walthamstow said the blunder wasn’t ‘unusual’ for the company.

He said: “They need to improve their services, it show how much care they take, the changeover to Overground has been a nightmare for us.

“Just think of the tax-payers money they spent on getting it wrong and then the money they will spend in an attempt to fix it.

“These days if you make a mistake it can be spread all over the world on social media, so they have to take it down it makes them look like idiots.

“How can you miss the letter out? They must have someone to check on this, this is just another in a long line of blunders from TfL.”

Soala Orupabo, 36, was on the way to work in High Street when she spotted the sign and burst into laughter.

“Is it a joke or something?”, she asked.

“I mean how can you get it so wrong? All the other signs around here are alright.

“I have to get this on Facebook.

“It’s idiotic but at least it gave me a laugh on the way to work.”

Dan Browne had some advice for TfL on where to place some of their funds next.

Jon Fox, TfL’s Director of London Rail, said: "We are aware that a small number of misspelt signs were put up at Walthamstow Central today. They will be replaced tonight with the correct signage.”
