A former Conservative parliamentary candidate has been named among the most influential women in sport.

Seven-times world karate champion Molly Samuel-Leport was listed as ‘one to watch in the fast lane’ by The Independent, this week.

On August 9 a list of the '50 most influential women in sport' was released by The Independent.

Women from all walks of life were included from boxer Nicola Adams to sports broadcaster Clare Balding.

Although Mrs Samuel-Leport was not named in the top 50, she was listed as an important figure for women in sport.

The mother-of-two is a 6th dan black belt, who won gold medals at five European Championships as well as the 1989 Sunday Times International Sports Woman of the Year award.

Sportswoman turned politician, Mrs Samuel-Leport stood as Conservative Party candidate in Walthamstow in the 2015 general election.
