A pensioner who has spent five weeks with drizzle in her flat, despite the weather outside, has called on her housing provider to take better care of pensioners.

Christine Adams, 66, has been hobbling around her flat in Walthamstow for over five weeks changing buckets to catch water from leaking ceilings.

The pensioner who broke her leg months ago has been dealing with the problem for so long she said she feels ‘abandoned’ by Ascham Homes.

“How can they leave people like this?” she said.

“I have been calling them every day for five weeks now. My carpets are getting ruined, my belongings have had to be moved. I can’t live like this. I’m on my own here.”

Mrs Adams has lived in Northwood Tower for 46 years but claims she has never know the council’s management company, recently taken back in house, to take so long to deal with an issue.

So far, the leak has hit her hallway, bathroom, living room and kitchen.

“Three plumbers have been out now,” she added.

“Some of them went upstairs and said there is a problem with the pipes – but they haven’t sent a surveyor out. They are just going to leave me like this.

“It’s like it’s raining in my cupboards.”

Judith Page, director of property services at Ascham Homes apologise for the delay in fixing the leak in the pensioner's flat.

She said: "This was due to problems in gaining access to another property which was the source of the leak which has now been resolved.

“We are hoping to get the leak fixed by the end Friday and we will continue to keep Ms Adams updated on the situation.”
