A top boys school is edging closer towards its goal of becoming a "world-class leader in education" by producing some record-breaking GCSE results.

Headteacher John Hernandez is confident Norlington School for Boys in Leyton will remain in the top 5 boys schools nationally as a result of pupil's GCSE success.

Just over 64 per cent of pupils scored at least five A* to C grades across core subjects, and one in five pupils got five A* and A grades which is double the national average.

Mr Hernandez, said: "Early indications suggest that we will remain in the top 5 boys schools nationally, which is truly a wonderful achievement.

"We are very proud of the achievements of our students.

"This is another major step in our transformation of Norlington School as we ensure our students receive the opportunities they deserve.

"Our vision for Norlington remains the same - to be recognised as a world class leader in education."

One student Abdullah Khwaja, 16, aced every exam scoring a remarkable able 9 A* and two A's.

He said: "The trick to doing well is to take every exam seriously.

"I don't think I am that good at chemistry but that is why I put more effort into studying for that exam.

"I am not sure I would have done as well if I didn't have the extra push that staff give you here.

"The school is very much geared towards improvement and progress.

"They give you the confidence and the encouragement to do well."

Kiem Nguyen, 16, who scored one A*, six A's and one B, praised Mr Hernandez for helping pupils to achieve their very best.
